Kerala government releases DPR of controversial K-Rail project
Opposition terms it as nothing but a hotchpotch report prepared without any conviction

Thiruvananthapuram: Finally, the detailed project report (DPR) of the controversial project of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been released. On Saturday it was put out on the website of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, which the Congress led Opposition termed it as nothing but a hotchpotch report prepared without any conviction.
The DPR runs into 3,776 pages and is in four volumes.
If completed the pet project of Vijayan will see a 529.45 km corridor connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod and a high speed train will run this distance in around four hours and it will cost a staggering Rs 63,940 crore.
530 km long #SilverLine will transform #Kerala's transport infrastructure and contribute to our overall development, including that of tourism. The ₹63,941 Cr complete green project will reduce travel time between the North & South ends of Kerala to just 4 hrs. #krail pic.twitter.com/Xbey9YKIYL

Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan said it was just the other day the Chief Information Commissioner said that the DPR cannot be made public as it contains very secretive information.
“Now what happened, where has the secrecy disappeared. This was released just because Anwar Sadath, our legislator two days back served a contempt notice against Vijayan, as in reply to a question in the assembly Vijayan had mentioned that all details including the DPR have been put out and given in a CD format. Such a thing had never happened and realising the contempt notice has meat, Vijayan released it on the website of the assembly. With this it has become very clear, with Vijayan caught on the wrong foot, it was released and there was nothing secretive in this,” said Satheesan.
Satheesan further added that the French company which prepared the DPR itself has gone on record that this DPR was prepared in a jiffy.
Metroman, E Sreedharan, the legendary engineer who has built numerous mega similar projects, has already termed this project “idiotic” which is ill-conceived, badly planned and very badly handled and now with the DPR out, all eyes are on what he has got to say..
A media critic on condition of anonymity said Vijayan feels that he can remain silent and take all for a ride and none should forget that just a few days back the Kerala High Court had slammed the way this project’s land was being acquired and it has now stayed laying of alignment stones for the project.
“Vijayan thinks now that he has left on Saturday for US for his treatment and will return only on 29th of this month, all the opposition to the project will die down when he returns. Just look Vijayan’s strategy of late, is to keep away from the media and when issues concerned to the leaking Mullaperiyar dam, re-appointment of Kannur University vice-chancellor, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan relinquishing the post of Chancellor and a few others surfaced, he has ducked the media. If he thinks he will be able to go ahead like this, then he is mistaken as he will have to give answers, especially with the Kerala High Court keeping a tab on all controversial issues,” said the critic.

Adhila and Fathima met when they were students in Saudi Arabia and later they decided to live together. But their relatives objected to the relationship.

Kerala High Court on Tuesday, May 31 allowed a lesbian couple, who were separated by their parents, to live together. The order was issued after hearing a plea filed by one Adhila Nasrin.
Adhila Nasrin said that she and her partner Fatima Noora were physically and mentally tortured by their families. Six days ago, Noora was abducted by her relatives.
Nasrin alleged that Fatima Noora, who came to Aluva to stay with her, was abducted by her family and could not be found. Later on Tuesday morning, a habeas corpus was filed in the high court claiming that Noora was missing.
The high court considered the petition in the morning and ordered the police to produce Fathima Noora in court. The petitioner, Adhila Nasrin, was also summoned to court at the same time.
A bench of Justice Vinod Chandran clarified that it is not forbidden for adults to live together. The high court also settled the habeas corpus petition filed by Adhila Nasrin.
The 22-year-old Nasrin and 23-year-old Noora have been in a relationship since their school days in Saudi Arabia. But their relationship was opposed by their parents. Later, after graduation, the couple decided to live together. But both families opposed this move.

International Nurses Day 2022: Role of Nurses in COVID-19 Pandemic
International Nurses Day 2022: This special day provides an opportunity to reflect on the role nurses played during the COVID-19 catastrophe.

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 2022: International Nurses Day is observed worldwide on May 12 annually to honour the selfless contribution of these angels of the medical fraternity. This significant day commemorates Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary, known as the founder of modern nursing. ‘A Voice to Lead—Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health’ is the theme for International Nurses Day 2022.
Nurses, like doctors, have become heroes for saving and healing patients amid the deadly pandemic. This special day provides an opportunity to reflect on the role nurses played during the COVID-19 catastrophe.
Role of Nurses in COVID-19:
For generations, nurses have laboured tirelessly, often at the expense of their health and well-being. However, their struggles and physical challenges are rarely appreciated. But it is our responsibility to acknowledge and thank them for their contributions to the healthcare system.
The global pandemic of COVID-19 has put a lot of burden on nurses. Unmindful of their safety, nurses worked with doctors round the clock as the pandemic continued to take a heavy toll on human lives globally. Nurses went above and beyond their everyday tasks to console patients in distress and provide them with the care and bravery they needed to combat the unprecedented pandemic. Nurses in Gujarat, for example, even danced with PPE kits to Bollywood hits like “Sochna Kya, Jo Bhi Hoga Dekha Jayega…” to cheer up patients.
“This global COVID-19 pandemic has shown the world the important role nurses play in keeping people healthy across the lifespan”, stated Annette Kennedy, President of the International Council of Nurses.
Nurses emerging as Corona warriors are now actively engaged in COVID-19 initiatives. They will continue to be critical participants in containing the pandemic with sufficient support. Hence, to attain universal health coverage, every country must invest in nursing, and medical infrastructure.
