ED raids in Punjab: Agency says incriminating documents, over Rs 10 crore cash found; conspiracy to trap me, alleges CM Channi | India News

Earlier today, the ED revealed that over Rs 10 crore cash, gold valued around Rs 21 lakh and a Rolex watch worth Rs 12 lakh were seized during the search operations.
The ED raids were carried out in connection with probe into money laundering allegations linked to the 2018 illegal sand mining case, the agency statement said.
‘Conspiracy to trap me’
Calling the raids a BJP ploy, Channi alleged that whenever elections are to take place, the BJP government at the Centre uses agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax and others against political opponents to target and arm-twist them.
“A conspiracy has been hatched to trap me in this case,” claimed Channi, referring to the ED raids conducted at the residence of his nephew on Tuesday.
Reacting to the ED raid at his nephew’s premises, Channi claimed that he was not even named in a 2018 FIR of the Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district) Police.
‘Raids on basis of details in FIR’
ED said its probe was on the basis of a case registered at Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar police station in Punjab over a complaint lodged on March 7, 2018 regarding illegal sand mining.
In the FIR, it was mentioned that a team comprising of officials of mining department, civil administration and police department made a surprise check and found that several mines were being excavated by various machines and mining was being carried out beyond the designated areas.
As per the FIR, apart from Malikpur, illegal mining activities were also carried out at Burjtahl Das, Barsal, Lalewal, Mandala and Khosa.
On the basis of information available, investigation was initiated against the above said mine owners and their associates in order to ascertain the money laundering activities undertaken by them for laundering their proceeds of crime, the ED statement said.
‘Revenge raids?’
Channi also sought to link the ED raids at the premises of his nephew to the recent scheduled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur, during which the PM returned without addressing a rally after his convoy got stuck for 15-20 minutes due to farmers’ protest.
“What was my fault, if Modi had to return? … why revenge is being taken on me,” the chief minister asked, referring to the ED raids.
‘Channi is a dishonest man’
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal targeted Channi over the ED raids and said the Punjab CM is not a common man but a “dishonest man”.
Kejriwal, through his comment, sought to target the common man image, which Channi has tried to cultivate following his elevation as the chief minister last year.
“Channi aam aadmi nahi, baiman aadmi hai (Channi is not a common man, he is a dishonest man),” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi attacking the CM on Wednesday.
On Tuesday too, Kejriwal had attacked Channi over illegal sand mining.
“It is sad that a relative of the chief minister is being raided for sand mining,” Kejriwal had said, adding that his party leader had earlier exposed how illegal sand mining was taking place in Channi’s assembly constituency Chamkaur Sahib.
“Despite uncovering it, the chief minister did not take action and even tried to justify it. It is clear that he (CM) and his family are involved in illegal sand mining. What can be expected for Punjab’s future from a person whose family is involved in illegal mining,” he had said.

A balloon vendor from Kerala named Kisbu rose to fame overnight after photos of her from a photoshoot attracted a huge amount of attention. The girl, who is from a Rajasthani family, was observed at the Andalur Kavu festival in Kerala by wedding photographer Arjun Krishnan. Now, the makeup artist who was in charge of her stunning transformation discussed the entire procedure. The artist known as Remya Prajul discussed how she changed Kisbu for the photo shoot.

When she saw a picture of Kisbu in Andalur Kavu selling balloons without any makeup, the thought struck her. After that, all that remained was to persuade Kisbu’s family to agree to the makeover.

According to the makeup artist, the process started around 4 AM. Before she was ready for the camera, she had to go through several steps with the facial, manicure, and pedicure. Remya made Kisbu feel at ease by outlining each step and its rationale. And as far as we know, the pictures caused the internet to breaking.
Kisbu’s parents only have one dream, according to Remya. They want her to get educated and not spend her life selling things like them. They are hopeful that this exposure will help the girl in her education.

Kerala High Court allows lesbian couple Adhila and Fathima to live together
Adhila and Fathima met when they were students in Saudi Arabia and later they decided to live together. But their relatives objected to the relationship.
Kerala High Court on Tuesday, May 31 allowed a lesbian couple, who were separated by their parents, to live together. The order was issued after hearing a plea filed by one Adhila Nasrin.
Adhila Nasrin said that she and her partner Fatima Noora were physically and mentally tortured by their families. Six days ago, Noora was abducted by her relatives.
Nasrin alleged that Fatima Noora, who came to Aluva to stay with her, was abducted by her family and could not be found. Later on Tuesday morning, a habeas corpus was filed in the high court claiming that Noora was missing.
The high court considered the petition in the morning and ordered the police to produce Fathima Noora in court. The petitioner, Adhila Nasrin, was also summoned to court at the same time.
A bench of Justice Vinod Chandran clarified that it is not forbidden for adults to live together. The high court also settled the habeas corpus petition filed by Adhila Nasrin.
The 22-year-old Nasrin and 23-year-old Noora have been in a relationship since their school days in Saudi Arabia. But their relationship was opposed by their parents. Later, after graduation, the couple decided to live together. But both families opposed this move.
